Our Priorities
Prior to the BID ballot in 2018, we consulted widely with businesses in the town centre, asking them to identify what a BID should do for the town centre area. Businesses were very clear that they wanted to see the BID support:

  • Events
  • Promotion
  • A Better Town for Business
  • Improved Accessibility

This is not an exhaustive list of the work that the BID will do but these are our 4 core priorities.

Royal Tunbridge Wells is a town that was built on leisure and recreation. Events have always played a part in our local economy with incoming visitors boosting our retail, food and beverage and hotel sectors.

Businesses asked the BID to support events and to improve and enhance them to ensure their long term sustainability.

The BID will be providing grant funding every year to amenity groups and event organisers to ensure that events are adequately funded and promoted.

We are developing a cultural strategy for the town, identifying events that fit with the character and essence of our lovely, historic spa town.

We will be helping to organise events to showcase the very best food and drink experiences.

A better town for business
Royal Tunbridge Wells is a regional centre for professional services and B2B buisnesses with an amazing selection of law, finance , tech and creative businesses based here. The BID is:

  • Working with a local independent waste contractor to offer reduced costs for BID levy paying businesses
  • Offering free training on digital and social media
  • Providing free training for Food & Beverage and hospitality business on allergen awareness and hygiene ratings
  • Organising networking events
  • Lobbying on issues such as Permitted Development Rights
  • Ensuring that investment is made in safety and security

Promoting Royal Tunbridge Wells
If you know Royal Tunbridge Wells, you’ll know it’s a fantastic destination, surrounded by stunning countryside. We have history, heritage, vibrancy, fantastic architecture, a thriving business community, arts and cultural venues and an amazing number of independent and specialist businesses. The BID will be telling more people about Royal Tunbridge Wells and encouraging and tempting more visitors from further afield.

In the first few months of the BID’s existence, we have already:

  • Produced quarterly What’s On Guides, distributing them across the South East of England
  • Updated, printed and distributed thousands of hand drawn town maps
  • Commissioned a place branding exercise via a local agency, developing a strong, unique brand to promote the town to a wider audience

We will be promoting Royal Tunbridge Wells at Travel Trade exhibitions, developing shopping guides, Christmas guides and working with national and lifestyle press to showcase the town.

Travel, transport and accessibility all play a part in the success and economy of town centres. The BID will be working closely with our local council to devise parking offers, aiming to attract more visitors to the town.

The BID is also undertaking bi monthly highways walks to ensure that wayfinding and signage is as good as it can be – we report our findings and follow up to ensure that improvements are made
