September – Food Month #RTWFoodMonth
Royal Tunbridge Wells sits in the heart of the High Weald and The Garden of England. For centuries, this corner of West Kent has played an important role in the UK’s food production with its rural landscapes and fertile soils contributing to abundant crops and harvests.
There are still remnants of ancient orchards visible today in and around Tunbridge Wells and for the past few years, there has been a renaissance in artisan food and drink producers throughout Kent. This has led to Royal Tunbridge Wells becoming a magnet for lovers of food and drink. Whether it’s touring award winning vineyards, educating yourself at Rosemary Shrager’s Cookery School, foraging from hedgerows, fishing for trout, eating fresh game or enjoying superb independent restaurants, Royal Tunbridge Wells is a veritable paradise for lovers of fine food and drink.
Visitors taking a stroll through town can select their favourite gin from more than 120 types at Chapel Place bar in the Pantiles, eat at Thackeray’s (named after William Makepeace Thackeray who spent time there), eat game at The Warren where all the game comes from their own private estate just a stones’ throw away, enjoy superb fish dishes at Sankey’s or take afternoon tea at Hatton’s in The Pantiles. At the other end of town in Camden Road, watch your pasta being made at Pasta Madre, experiment with cutting edge, innovative British food at Vittle and Swig, enjoy proper old fashioned Italian food at the family run restaurant Il Vesuvio or experience mouth-watering Vegan dishes at Plant Base.
This September, Royal Tunbridge Wells Together wants to start celebrating our superb epicurean offering and shouting about it to a wider audience. In the space of 3 weeks, the town is hosting 2 Food Festivals, 3 markets, a superb pop up restaurant in a heritage steam railway station and many restaurants are offering promotions, special menus and offers. We want food and drink lovers to visit our beautiful town, try new tastes and food experiences and relish every mouthful!
